When to Change Oil

Engine oil can have a wide range as to when it eventually needs to be replaced. You'll usually want to do so about twice a year-or roughly every six months. You may begin to notice certain signs within your vehicle that indicate older oil. For example, your check engine light may come on, which should prompt you to seek out a service technician that can find the cause.

Your engine may also sound loud, as though the interior parts are knocking around. A subtler sound, like a ticking, is another indicator of old oil.

In addition, there may be a burning odor that permeates the interior of your vehicle, as old oil cannot reduce the heat of the engine effectively.
